The Evo II and III were launched respectively in 1993 and 1995, with the Evolution IV in 1996. The first of the more modern Mitsubishi Carisma based models was the Lancer Evo V, which made its world debut at the Tokyo Show in October 1997.
Which is why our star sale this week snagged our attention, even though it happened on the other side of the Atlantic. First, it’s a cool car we rarely see. Second, the price. Sold on Collecting Cars (essentially the British Bring a Trailer), this 2001 Evo VI Tommi Makinen Edition (aka “TME”) hit a winning bid of £140,500 (about $167,000).
An ultra-rare Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VI Tommi Mäkinen Edition set a record bidding price of £100,100 in the UK. When it comes to depreciation, there’s one class of vehicle that seems to be immune and it’s the rare ’90s Japanese sports car. Hi, I've just purchased a 2001/Y Evo 6 GSR Tommi Makinen no. 180. I'm not terribly knowlegeable about the varying specs and wonder if you could fill me in on this car. I assume it's 276BHP. Are the "Tommi Makinen's" particularly exclusive or was it purely a marketing thing ? How many did they
For reference, the TME does 0-60 in about 4.5 seconds, although official numbers pegged it at about 4.8. Quoting straight line speed numbers for cars designed to go fast down a twisty road seems a bit pointless. The TME has an extremely advanced AWD system and AYC, which is still more advanced than the systems a brand new STI will use.
Always loved the 6, probably the best looking Evo (imo), dad worked for Mitsi for many years so had a few chances to see Evo's and go out in them. Reply DankPhysics •
