Disadvantage of this type is low numbers of gear. In high mountains with heavier cargoes it will keep higher revs, as there are lower number of gears - might be harder to keep proper torque and fuel economy will be lower. Also, you might have lower speed uphill. In general you need to try answer your question yourself;)
It depends on what you are hauling. For light loads the 4x2 is best as there are less tires on the road, ie better fuel consumption and less wear. For heavier loads the 6x4 is better spreading the load over the axles. I prefer the 6x2 taglift. the Tag/mid lift chassis allow for the raising of the middle or rear axle's. #2.
If you want to switch between Automatic and manual shifting select a button or key to toggle the "Gearbox Switch Automatic/Sequential" modes. In Automatic mode the transmission will shift itself up and down and your gear will be displayed with an "A" preceding the gear number indicating it is in the "Auto" mode.

Supernovae Oct 2 @ 2:09am. For a given engine the transmission impacts the RPM of the engine for a given speed and load. The more gears there are, the greater chance you'll be in the ideal portion of the power band, though some transmissions are better at cruising than others.
MosGuy Nov 13, 2016 @ 12:35am. I use the automatic transmission with the auto/manual toggle. I've started testing the 6 speed after using the 12. From what I can see with motorway cruising the final drive ratio works out the same. The 6 speed has taller gears and therefore less shifting. Hills will cause the six speed to slow down a bit more
For the 10 speed (Allison TC10) it's good for linehaul (until around 45000 lbs trailers), but not for heavy weights. Also, note that IRL the TC-10 is limited to around 1850 lbs-ft in input torque, so it means that if you want to keep it realistic, the engine you would use with that transmission should not produce more torque than that. Finally
I have a G29 with a 6 speeds shifter, and I find 6 speeds transmission much more enjoyable than 12 speeds (yet much less realistic, but it doesn't feel right for me to use the 12 speeds transmission.). When you create a new profile and don't yet have a truck, those rental trucks have 12 speeds transmission and I hate driving them.
