The rain sensor is inside the plastic housing behind the rear view mirror. If they removed that casing and mucked about or damaged something in there and the sensor isn't reporting it would explain your issue. I think in infotainment you can disable rain sensing and convert back to normal intermittent wipers.

2013 Mazda cx9. Low beam not working on right side. Low beam Working on left side. Hi beam working on both sides No fuses blown. Multimeter shows no power to the right hand lo beam fuse. Checked relay by switching the relay (same relay) with the hi beam relay. Same Issue. Can't find a wiring diagram but assuming it goes relay then fuse then lights?
